Luka Doncic just showed the basketball world that not only is he the real deal but that also, he can step up to the plate when it matters the most. Doncic led the Mavs to a demolition job over the top-seeded Phoenix Suns in Game 7 of their second-round series en route to booking their spot to the Western Conference Finals — a first for Luka.

Mavs head coach Jason Kidd has been a first-hand witness to the evolution of Doncic. At this point, however, the 49-year-old shot-caller believes that Luka is far from a finished product. Kidd revealed that Luka's objective is to emulate the game of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James:

“Jason Kidd told me before Game 6 that I called..that Luka has to evolve..to defend. He said the model for Luka is Lebron who controls the game at both ends..right now Kidd said Luka is trying to trend away from “Harden” and the goal is Lebron. Luka ain’t Bird. He’s more Lebron,” Jones wrote in his tweet.

Luka's shortcomings on the defensive end were exposed in the Suns series and this has led to comparisons to Sixers star James Harden. It appears that the Mavs stud wants to move away from this mold as he looks to model his game to that of the great LeBron James. This is no easy task but if anyone can do it, then it has to be Luka Doncic.
