Players often try to throw the ball off their opponent when going out of bounds in order to make sure they were the last to touch the ball. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. During Tuesday's matchup between the Dallas Mavericks and the San Antonio Spurs, Mavs star Kristaps Porzingis showed exactly what could go wrong when attempting this sort of play.

In an attempt to throw the ball of Spurs forward Trey Lyles before getting a backcourt violation, the Latvian big man would miscalculate.

In an already close game, the blunder would lead to Lyles running down the ball which would eventually lead to a LaMarcus Aldridge dunk on the possession.

The play would end up being a pivotal one as the Spurs were able to outscore Dallas by 12 points in the game's final quarter and move on with a 119-109 victory and giving the Mavericks their second straight loss.

The 7-foot-3 power forward would end the losing effort with just nine points and 12 rebounds in 38 minutes of play in his second straight poor game after a stretch of great ones.
