Sacramento Mayor and ex-NBA Phoenix Suns guard Kevin Johnson attended a Farm-to-Table dinner event only to end up in a fight.

During the dinner, a protestor of Johnson approached him with a coconut cream pie and hit him directly in the face.

In a moment of surprise, Johnson wrestled the man down and punched him multiple times leaving him bloody enough to warrant stitches to close a gash in his face.

The pie thrower was identified as 32-year-old Occupy Sacramento activist Sean Thompson, who was arrested on felony and assault of a public official as well as a misdemeanor battery charge.

There were nearly 200 people including a few dozen high school students in attendance at the Farm to Fork week event held at Johnson's alma mater Sacramento High School where the incident took place.

Witnesses say Johnson was chatting with guests when hit with the pie, which happened so quickly that it shocked him.

Thompson was restrained and cuffed by security until police arrived, and Johnson later joked about the incident at the dinner.

Bail is set at $100,000, and Johnson is safe at home with his family.
