Presenting your 2021 World Series Champions: the New York Mets!

Despite being seven months away from the World Series and three weeks away from opening day, the Mets are already celebrating winning their first World Series win since 1986…well…sort of.

In a hilarious video posted to Twitter by New York Daily News Mets reporter Deesha Thosar, the Mets were caught out celebrating what it would be like to win the World Series by catching the final out in game 7. You can watch the video below:

A coach can be heard in the video saying “don't be nervous” as well as adding “everybody celebrate.” A catch is then made by an outfielder, before players rush the infield celebrating, screaming, throwing their hats into the air and dancing around.

Despite the video turning a few heads on social media, Mets manager Luis Rojas told SNY there was a reason behind the celebration, saying that after running a “27 Outs” drill that he wanted to raise the stakes.

“It got really intense and the guys were celebrating that last out because I think Tony Tarasco threw in a situation of a World Series Game 7 and all that and robbing a home run and Michael Conforto [catching it]. So they simulated that very well.”

The 27 Outs drill is when a team has to get all 27 outs consecutively without making a mistake.

First baseman Dominic Smith said he enjoyed the experience, adding that he believed doing it would put “positive things in the universe” and that looking back at the video “gave him chills”.

The Mets are tied for the fifth favorite to lift the World Series trophy in October, alongside the Atlanta Braves, according to Odds Shark.
