The New York Mets are preparing to head out West for an extended road trip to start off the month of June. While fans won't be seeing the team in Queens for a couple of weeks, Buck Showalter dropped some encouraging news that will have supporters fired up for what's to come. According to Joe Pantorno, Buck Showalter indicated that ace Jacob deGrom would be joining the Mets out West for their upcoming road trip, indicating that a potential return could be in the cards for the superstar starting pitcher in the near future.

deGrom has missed the entire season while nursing a right shoulder injury, specifically to the scapula. He was placed on the 60-day IL recently after starting the year on the 15-day IL, but now looks as if he's getting ready to return to action. deGrom recently revealed he feels “completely normal,” though the Mets have been exercising caution with their ace in order to avoid another injury setback.

After missing nearly two months of the season, there's a real chance deGrom will make his return to MLB soil at some point during the next two weeks, during which the Mets will be in California for matchups against the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, and Los Angeles Angels.

After June 1, the Mets won't play at Citi Field again until a June 14 clash against the Milwaukee Brewers. It's unclear precisely when deGrom will be back on the mound for the Mets, but this latest update from Showalter certainly bodes well for the 33-year-old getting back to work soon, on track with his previous timetable.
