Mike Tyson was so elated for his comeback fight against Roy Jones Jr. that he smoked marijuana and got high prior to the highly-anticipated bout. According to Barstool Sports, the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association tested both fighters heading into the match to spot the use of performance-enhancing drugs but marijuana was not included in the list of banned substances.

“Absolutely yes… Listen, I can’t stop smoking,” the former heavyweight champion said. “I smoked during fights. I just have to smoke, I’m sorry. I’m a smoker. … I smoke everyday. I never stopped smoking,” he admitted.

Tyson also left a vague answer and had no specific explanation as to why he smoked prior to the match.

“It’s just who I am,’’ he said. “It has no effect on me from a negative standpoint. It’s just what I do and how I am and how I’m going to die. There’s no explanation. There’s no beginning, there’s no end.”

Even with his condition and fighting at the advanced age of 54, Tyson still managed to hold a valiant stand as he traded blows with Jones all throughout the match. The fight eventually lasted for eight rounds with two minutes each with the outcome ultimately ending in an unofficial draw, to the dismay of many fans.

Tyson's affinity for marijuana shouldn't come as a surprise as he currently owns a ranch in California spanning 40-acres which first started back in 2018, via The New York Post.

Nonetheless, the two fighters brought a good show for the fans and one can only imagine what could've happened to Roy Jones Jr. if Mike Tyson was in his full senses during the match.
