  • G2: Gwen, Viego, Senna, Twisted Fate, Gangplank
  • EG: Lucian, Ahri, Kalista, Rakan, Pyke

Picks

  • G2: Ornn, Wukong, LeBlanc, Kai'Sa, Nautilus
  • EG: Mordekaiser, Lee Sin, Ryze, Ezreal, Leona

The two Western teams face off for the nth time this MSI, and G2 once again find early advantages against EG. They soon flip the story when Ezreal hit his power spike, and now EG wins the fights. This kept on until the G2 carries, Kai'Sa and LeBlanc, got their Ornn items.

The stat bonuses granted by the Masterwork items were too much for EG, and lost fights for them meant space taken up by G2. This space allowed them to get the Baron buff, and they wanted more. Both teams were at three Drakes apiece. Neither team wanted to give up the Soul. G2 Esports overwhelm Evil Geniuses in the fight, wipe them, and end the game.

Result: G2 win in 33:52 (G2 16 – 8 EG)

Game 2: Royal Never Give Up (LPL) vs PSG Talon (PCS)

As with most RNG games, it was utter destruction from them. Their “go in” team composition did just that: go in and steamroll the entirety of PSG Talon. One interesting thing that happened this match though is this interaction with Nautilus and Lee Sin:

All throughout the game, it felt like nothing that PSG tried stuck. After two Barons, RNG march to take their W. At the end of this game, PSG Talon only had 3 kills, 2 towers, and one Drake to their name. They were behind 15 thousand gold when their nexus exploded.

Result: RNG win in 31:21 (RNG 11 – 3 PSG)

  • T1: Tristana, Galio, Volibear, Rakan, Gragas
  • SGB: Lucian, Wukong, Zoe, Jayce, Yuumi

Picks

  • T1: Gwen, Vi, Ahri, Ezreal, Braum
  • SGB: Kennen, Nocturne, Akali, Kalista, Nautilus

The story of this one is similar to the previous game's: SGB tried everything but nothing seemed to work against the LCK titans. Admittedly, T1 was having a little fun with the draft, picking Vi for the second time this MSI. Faker's Ahri was well-piloted, but it was simply a player gap all across the board.

Froggy's Akali and Shogun's Kalista found 3 kills each, but the rest of SGB were unable to spill any T1 blood. T1's gold lead ballooned to more than 14 thousand by after they took Baron Nashor at just 21 minutes into the game.

Result: T1 win in 22:55 (T1 20 – 6 SGB)

  • EG: Wukong, Kalista, Viego, Karma, Ornn

Picks

  • PSG: Gnar, Graves, Ahri, Ezreal, Rakan
  • EG: Tryndamere, Lucian, LeBlanc, Kai'Sa, Leona

In a vacuum, the Evil Geniuses' draft was better. Combine this with the fact that each player performed better than their counterpart, this game too was a stomp. PSG quickly turned their attention to the Rift Herald, which allowed them to gain the first tower. They then claim the second Rift Herald, but all this time EG was getting Drakes.

Up until the fight before what would soon become EG's Ocean Soul, the gold was even. only in this fight 26 minute in did EG gain a significant gold lead, which they turned into a Baron, an Elder Dragon, and another Baron to finally put an end to this game.

Only Danny and Impact saw a grayscale screen this game on EG's side; the rest remained deathless.

Result: EG win in 34:59 (PSG 3 – 19 EG)

  • T1: Gwen, Xin Zhao, Zoe, Ezreal, Leona

Perhaps the only match that viewers perceived to be close today, the Eastern major region teams clashed. The first team fight happened quite late in the game, around the first Rift Herald. The fight ultimately turned up heads for RNG, if not for the fact that Gumayusi stole away the Rift Herald. T1 swiftly convert this to a siege onto the top lane tower.

On the RNG side, Bin's performance was subpar, but GALA made up for it. With Xiaohu by his side on a more supportive position, RNG's damage was still pretty solid. T1, facing this, decided to take Baron and successfully slay it, but lose multiple members in the process. At this point, RNG's carries can be aptly described as “super fed.”

RNG sacrificed their top laner in order to have a timing to get the Baron buff, and T1 thought that claiming their Hextech Soul was a safe play. Unfortunately for them, Wei bolted it from his fountain and made it just in time to yoink away T1's drake.

Everything that happened afterwards felt like a formality, but the cherry on top was GALA's quadra kill. RNG successfully took down T1 and turned the Busan Stadium into a library.

Result: RNG win in 32:37 (RNG 24 – 14 T1)

  • SGB: Diana, Kalista, Pyke, Karma, Leona
  • G2: Lucian, Wukong, Tristana, Nautilus, Gwen

Picks

  • SGB: Vayne, Viego, Twisted Fate, Vladimir, Senna
  • G2: Sion, Graves, Ahri, Ezreal, Bard

Saigon Buffalo certainly drafted some interesting champions, placing the Vayne in the top lane to face the Sion and pairing the Vladimir with Senna in bot lane. Despite this, G2 looked unfazed, and found a weak spot in SGB: Froggy. He was continually abused, resulting in 7 deaths by the end of the game.

Unfortunately, this provoked an equal reaction from SGB, as Bard's roaming style meant that Flakked's Ezreal was often left alone, and this was punished. Jankos on Graves is popping heads left and right, preventing any of SGB from even finding a fighting chance.

Result: G2 win in 23:18 (SGB 6 – 22 G2)
