The NBA is reaching another important date as Thursday marks the deadline to use the stretch provisions on a designated player.

According to David Aldridge of NBA.com, the Milwaukee Bucks are likely to use the stretch provision on veteran center Spencer Hawes meanwhile New Orleans Pelicans are unlikely to do the same with veteran big man Omer Asik.

Hawes is in the final year of his four-year, $22.6 million deal that will pay him $6 million for the 2017-18 campaign after opting in early this offseason. He has seen his role progressive decrease with each passing season as he played in 19 games with the Bucks last season averaging 4.4 points and 2.4 rebounds in just 9.0 minutes per contest.

Asik has found himself in a similar situation being used in a limited role with the Pelicans averaging just 2.7 points and 5.3 rebounds in just 15.5 minutes per contests while making 19 starts in 31 games played.

The 31-year-old is set to enter the third year of his five-year, $57.9 million deal that includes a $11.9 million early-termination option for the 2019-20 season. The fact that he has more than one year left on his deal may be pushing the team to think overwise about stretching Asik.

The stretch provision will allow for an NBA team to pay out the remaining years of the contract over a set number of years rather than pay it all in one year.
