Former New York Knicks and NBA big man Charles Oakley has reached a plea deal in Las Vegas after his gambling arrest on July 7th according to Ian Begley of ESPN.  Oakley pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct and as a result, will have to pay a fine of $1,000 but will avoid jail time.

Oakley was arrested by Nevada Gaming Control Board enforcement agents who accused him of removing chips from the betting area after knowing the result of the hand. Twice he also added more chips to the betting area after the hand was over in hopes of making more money. Oakley was originally charged with a felony and faced a sentence of up to six years in a state prison a fine of up to $10,000.

“Mr. Oakley has pled no contest to the simple misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct which fully resolves this situation,” Oakley's attorneys, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, said in a statement provided to ESPN. “He appreciates the professionalism of the District Attorney and the Cosmopolitan in resolving this event.”

Oakley has had a few runs in with the law over the last few years with the most publicized when he was arrested after getting into an argument with New York Knicks. Oakley was charged with misdemeanor assault and trespassing but later agreed to a plea deal that dropped the charges. Oakley than filed a lawsuit against Madison Square Garden for the way he was treated during the incident and that case is still making its way through the court system.
