When it was officially announced that Golden State Warriors All-Star Kevin Durant suffered a ruptured Achilles, a lot of people started wondering how this impacts this summer's free agency. There are several teams who are vying to sign the reigning two-time Finals MVP, but that was before the serious injury. Now that KD is expected to miss at least the entirety of next season, there are rumors that some of those teams might have a change of heart.

But that doesn't seem to be the case, according to an NBA executive who was interviewed by Bleacher Report's Ken Berger. The anonymous front office member said that KD's injury will not change anything in free agency, particularly for those teams who've been planning about signing Durant for a long time.

“I don't think it's going to change one thing. Some teams have been setting themselves up for this and preparing for Durant to choose them, and I think those teams are too deep into it now. I don't think they can turn back.”

The most prominent team that has been associated with Durant over the past couple of months is the New York Knicks. The said franchise has enough cap space to sign him as well as another top-tier free agent this summer. According to numerous reports, the Knicks have remained hell-bent on bringing Durant in. Whether or not that changes between now and July 1st remains to be seen.

Should KD fail to secure a max contract from the Knicks or any other team, he can choose to exercise his player option with the Warriors for next season, and if he does that, he will then be eligible for a supermax contract.
