The former owners of the Seattle SuperSonics are aiming to bring an expansion NHL franchise to Seattle.

According to an Associated Press report, via The Hour, Seattle Sounders majority owner Adrian Hanauer and members of the Ackerley family are part of a bid for Seattle to have an NHL team. From 1983 to 2001, the Ackerly family owned the NBA's SuperSonics.

Per Doug Mellon of SB Nation, Tod Leiweke, the would-be Chief Executive Officer of the NHL franchise in Seattle, shared that they'll be presenting their case to the NHL executive committee:

”On October 2nd, we are going to stand in front of the executive committee of the National Hockey League and again present our case. That executive committee will ultimately be followed by a full board meeting.”

Their presentation will include a six-minute video, hoping to get a nod that they belong in the NHL.

”We’re preparing a six-minute video and we’re going to orchestrate this carefully,” stated Leiweke during his first episode of Tuesdays with Tod. “We’re going to stand up in front of these owners and say we belong in this league.”

The proposal will include the reconstruction of the Key Arena — where the Sonics used to play their home games and would be designated as the future arena for the NHL team. The said renovation will amount to some $700 million.
