Kevin Garnett is one of, if not the best story-tellers in the entire NBA. The Hall of Famer proved this yet again with a hilarious retelling of one of his first encounters with Miami Heat team president Pat Riley.

According to KG, Riley wasn't pleased about having to watch Garnett during his pre-draft workout. Riley, who had already established himself as one of the top coaches in the league at that time, simply wasn't pleased about having to watch a high school kid during his workout. Well, at least this is according to Garnett (h/t Bleacher Report on Twitter):

This was in 1995 when Kevin Garnett was just a 19-year-old kid coming out of high school and Riley was entering his first season as the Heat head coach. KG was one of the most highly-touted prospects in his class, but apparently, Pat Riley initially didn't see the need to watch him work out. According to KG, Riley's mood quickly changed as soon as he saw Garnett dunking all over the place.

For what it's worth, Garnett went fifth overall in that draft to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He came behind the likes of Joe Smith (first overall) and Rasheed Wallace (fourth overall), to name a couple. Riley and the Heat picked 10th and they ended up with Kurt Thomas. At that point, I'm pretty sure Pat Riley would have pounced on the opportunity to draft Garnett if he had the chance.
