The NBA has named Dallas Mavericks guard-forward Luka Doncic and Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young as the NBA Rookies of the Month for March and April.

Clutchpoints L.A. Clippers writer Tomer Azarly broke the news on Twitter on April 11.

The 20-year-old Doncic, a native of Slovenia, averaged 21.8 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 6.8 assists in March. In the two games he played in April, he averaged 24.0 points, 14.0 rebounds, and 8.5 assists.

Luka Doncic is one of the most versatile rookies the NBA has ever seen. He recorded his eighth triple-double of the season on April 10. He had 21 points, 16 rebounds, and 11 assists in the Mavericks' 120-109 victory over the Phoenix Suns.

With the feat, Doncic moved to third place in the NBA record books for rookie triple-doubles. Only Oscar Robertson (26) and Ben Simmons (12) have more, per Basketball-Reference.com. More impressively, Doncic surpassed the great Earvin “Magic” Johnson (seven) in the list.

Doncic averaged 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 6.0 assists in 72 games during the 2018-19 NBA season.

On the other hand, the 20-year-old Young averaged 23.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 9.3 assists in March. He also averaged 23.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 8.8 assists in April.

Young is the first Hawks player to win four Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month honors, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He also earned the distinction in November, January, and February.

Young averaged 19.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 8.1 assists during the 2018-19 NBA season. His assists average ranked fourth in the league.

Who will emerge as the 2019 NBA Rookie of the Year? With Doncic and Young's outstanding performances this season, the league will have a tough decision to make.

Whatever the outcome, it was one entertaining 2019 NBA Rookie of the Year race, for sure.
