The NBA Slam Dunk Contest participants on Saturday took centerstage as all four of them threw down some powerful and creative slams that kept the fans highly entertained. However, it was the judges who were also much talked about during the event, as many questioned some of the scores they gave. From dunks not receiving a perfect score despite deserving it, to a missed attempt only eight points lower than a double-clutch slam made successfully, many were wondering what the basis was for their scoring.

That may be the case in the NBA, but in the G League, it was even more unorthodox to say the least, as there were some judges who were replaced when the final round started. Former NBA big man A.C. Green and current Brooklyn Nets point guard Spencer Dinwiddie took the place of Jerry Stackhouse and a Twitch streamer on the judges' table and were tasked to be part of the crew that decided who the eventual winner was, as tweeted by SB Nation.

This is definitely something that has not happened before, which shows that there was no continuity with the ones who scored the dunks performed. It was tougher for the contestants to impress the replacements as they did not know their standards, not being the ones who gave scores in the preliminary round.

For what it's worth though, the players still gave it their best and gave the crowd on a hand a lot to cheer for. DeQuan Jones ultimately won the contest, scoring 94 points in the first round and 86 in the final. He bested Michael Bryson who was unable to pull off some dunks as he wanted to. Jones' performance could be a morale booster and help him perform better as the season progresses, where he looks to improve on his 15.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.3 steals averages for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
