Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has stirred the pot in the wake of his recent comments pertaining to New Orleans Pelicans Anthony Davis. According to a report, some small-market GMs are calling out the league office to apply the necessary penalties on LeBron and the Lakers for what they deem to be tampering on the end of the four-time MVP.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, a number of team general managers have raised concerns regarding LeBron's alleged illegal approach:

“It's New Orleans' problem today, and a problem with a different player tomorrow for the rest of us,” one Eastern Conference GM told ESPN. “It's open season on small markets and our players.”

The Association has a set of rules to address the issue of tampering, but there are some who believe they are very much open to interpretation. The subjective nature of the policy makes it a challenge to determine if certain instances, such as this, can be considered as tampering.

However, for another Western Conference GM, James' violation is clear as day:

“If these are the rules, enforce them. If you want to push Anthony Davis in LA, if you allow LeBron to interfere with teams, then just do it. Change the rules, and say ‘It's the wild, wild west and anything goes.' But give us a list of the rules that you're enforcing, and give us a list of the rules that you're going to ignore.”

Davis will enter free agency after the 2019-20 season, and while he has repeatedly reaffirmed his commitment to the Pelicans, the rumors of an impending move — particularly to the Lakers to follow LeBron — just won't go away.
