The Washington Wizards will travel to take on the Houston Rockets in a Wednesday night NBA matchup at the Toyota Center in Houston. With that said, it’s a good time to check out our NBA odds series, which includes a Wizards-Rockets prediction and pick, laid out below.

Washington has struggled to a 21-26 record this season, 11th place in the Eastern Conference. The team suffered a 10-game losing streak to open December, but has won 10 of their last 16 games since the losing streak. Head coach Wes Unseld is in his second season with the franchise.

Houston has suffered to an 11-36 record this season, with seemingly nothing going right. The Rockets are in dead last in the Western Conference. In their last 20 games, Houston has gone an awful 2-18. Last time out, Houston snapped their 13-game losing streak with a 119-114 victory over Minnesota.

Why The Wizards Could Cover The Spread

Bradley Beal leads the team with 22.4 points and is second with 5.2 assists per game. Kristaps Porzingis is second on the team with 22.1 points and leads the team with 8.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. Porzingis has shot 47.6 percent from the field but is out with a sprained ankle. Kyle Kuzma, in his second year with Washington, has averaged 22.0 points per game, which would be a career-high across a full season. Kuzma has also pulled in 7.6 rebounds per game. Washington ranks 11th in the league with 44.1 rebounds per game, and sixth in blocks at 5.3. Monte Morris is the fourth and final Wizard in double-digits, averaging 10.4 points per game. Morris also leads the team with 5.4 assists per game. With the recent trade of Rui Hamichura, there are plenty of minutes to make up for off the bench. Will Barton was averaging the second-most minutes off the bench, and will likely slide into the sixth man spot. Kendrick Nunn, who was the lone player received for Hamichura, has averaged 6.7 points this season for the Lakers, playing sparingly after missing last season with a knee injury.

Washington has been pedestrian offensively, ranking 22nd with 112.8 points per game. Defense has been slightly better for the Wizards, ranking 16th with 113.6 points allowed per game.

Why The Rockets Could Cover The Spread

Jalen Green, who went second overall in 2021, leads the team with 22.1 points per game, which is a five-point increase from his rookie season. Kevin Porter Jr. leads the team with 5.6 assists per game, also ranking second with 19.2 points per game. Across a full season, 19.2 points would be a career-high for the fourth-year pro. Porter will be out until at least the weekend with a foot injury. Eric Gordon, the oldest player on the roster at 34, has shot 34.9 percent from behind the 3-point line, averaging 12.3 points per game. Opponents have shot 36.2 percent from behind the three-point line against Washington. Alperen Sengun leads the team with 8.9 rebounds on average while also putting up 15.4 points per game. Third-overall pick Jabari Smith Jr. has put in a solid debut season, averaging 12.0 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.

Houston has scored 109.9 points per game, 29th in the league. Defense has also been a struggle for the Rockets, who are allowing 117.4 points per game, which ranks 25th in the league.
