Virtual Reality in gaming, technology and media platforms has been a raging buzzword this year. It seems its growth has now reached the NBA’s doorstep.

The NBA partnered with Oracle to release a VR mini-documentary retells titled “Follow My Lead: The Story of the 2016 NBA Finals.” The 25 minute film gives fans an up close and personal view of last year's incredible NBA Finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors.

As if the the 7-game season climax needed any more dramatization, the VR film gives the series a new insight. The creators say the natural emotion of sport and particularly this series helped to add an element that VR media usually cannot reproduce.

The film can be viewed for free via the Gear VR store and Facebook 360 Video.

This is not the first time the NBA has dabbled into VR. The league had previous work in the space with Samsung and in 2015 with LeBron James.

Perhaps this is a hint at the future of video delivery for the NBA. One way or another, VR is definitely something being looked at by the league for years to come.
