Amar'e Stoudemire signed a one-day contract with the New York Knicks so that, just one day later, he could retire as a Knick after 14 seasons in the NBA.

The 33-year Stoudemire spent the majority of his career and most of his prime years with the Phoenix Suns.

Stoudemire signed with the Knicks in 2010, reuniting with his former Suns coach Mike D'antoni. He then later spent his last two seasons with the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat.

His retirement, which he released in a statement on Tuesday, sent NBA players and some former teammates scrambling to social media to send their final well wishes and congratulations on a great career:
