The Clippers are trading point guard Derrick Walton Jr. to the Hawks for a second-round pick and $1.3 million in cash considerations, according to a report from Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

Walton went undrafted in 2017. The 24-year-old later became a two-way player for the Miami Heat and their G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce. He also spent time overseas playing for Žalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania.

This move opens up a roster spot and a bit of cash for the Clippers, who are said to be active ahead of this season's trade deadline as they try to acquire Marcus Morris. Though he could serve as a viable backup, the Hawks are expected to cut Walton:

In his 23 appearances with the Clippers this season (one start), Walton has racked up averages of 2.2 points on 47.2 percent shooting from the field (42.9 percent from beyond the arc) and an assist in 9.7 minutes per outing.

The Clippers will be back in action on Saturday, when they'll face off against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Tip-off inside the Target Center is set for 8:00 p.m. ET. LA will be looking to build on a three-game winning streak. Minnesota, on the other hand, has lost 13 straight games.
