His lone year with the Houston Rockets did not end in ideal fashion, no thanks to the season-ending injury he suffered in the Western Conference Semifinals against the San Antonio Spurs. But Nene is hoping that this would not be his last with the team.

Speaking with reporters Friday, the Brazilian big man expressed his desire to remain with the team as he enters free agency this summer.

“Of course I would like to be back. They brought me back. They brought a young Nene back. When you're happy, when you feel good, when you feel engaged and trust people (with whom) you work, of course you want to be back.

“It's great, it's been blessed. … I've been through a lot of situations, but here I got young, I got healthy, and I got happy, so of course I want to be back.”

In 67 games under Mike D’Antoni, Nene only averaged 9.1 points and 4.2 rebounds, both his lowest in recent years, but the campaign could very well be considered as one of his most successful and efficient ones.

The Rockets held the third best regular season record, while Nene’s player efficiency rating was his highest since the 2011-2012 season.

With the cap heading north next year, Nene could very well be lined up for a solid increase from the $2.9 million he signed up last summer with Houston.
