After horribly underperforming in this first round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs and getting swept by the Boston Celtics, the Brooklyn Nets are due for some major roster overhaul this summer. It goes without saying that the Nets will need to surround Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving with as much quality talent as possible if they're hoping to hoist the NBA title in 2023.

In their best efforts to take the league by storm, the Nets will be looking to right the ship and make some serious personnel changes during the offseason. Let's now discuss three trades the Nets must make to help out Durant and Irving out after their embarrassing sweep against the Celtics.

Trades Nets must make during 2022 NBA Offseason

1. Rudy Gobert

As a 3x winner of the NBA DPOY Award and one of the best rim protectors in the league, Rudy Gobert's time in Utah could be coming to an end. If the Jazz don't want him, then there's surely plenty of teams who will come calling about his availability. The Nets are one team that would greatly benefit from his elite defensive presence down low.

Gobert's rebounding, shot blocking, and stellar interior defense would be a perfect fit alongside Durant and Irving and fix Brooklyn's defensive woes. Plus a talented defensive duo of Simmons and Gobert would be smothering to opposing offenses on the interior. If the Nets want to get over the hump and make a title run next season then adding a center of Gobert's caliber would improve their chances of this and make them a more efficient two-way team.

2. Donovan Mitchell

He's another disgruntled star playing for the Utah Jazz and may be seeking a change of scenery this summer. After several failed playoff runs as their franchise superstar, Donovan Mitchell seems like he's ready to take his talents elsewhere. A star trio of Mitchell, Durant, and Irving would be absolutely mesmerizing to the entire league.

Add to that the return of Simmons and all of a sudden the Nets would have the most star-studded roster in the league. They're versatile skillsets would overwhelm opponents on a nightly basis. With the addition of Mitchell, the Nets would be the odds-on favorites to win it all during the 2022-23 NBA campaign.

3. Damian Lillard

Even though this is highly unlikely, it still would be worth a try for the Nets to build a super team with one of the best clutch players in NBA history. Damian Lillard's selfless team play and ability to knock down big shots routinely is what's made him a superstar all these years. Given the unlikelihood of Lillard winning an NBA championship with the Portland Trail Blazers, this seems like a move well worth it for the Nets.

Not to mention Lillard would form arguably the greatest scoring trio ever assembled with Durant and Irving. Add to that the defensive prowess, rebounding, and playmaking abilities of Simmons and the Nets would be truly unstoppable. Despite Lillard's refusal to team up with other stars to compete for a title, this may be his best shot at making an NBA Finals and winning it all for the first time in his illustrious career.
