In a whirlwind of an offseason, former Brooklyn Nets guard D'Angelo Russell was traded to the Golden State Warriors after making his first All-Star team and making significant career steps in Brooklyn.

Instead of being bitter toward the team that decided to release him, Russell had nothing but positives to say about the Nets. In an interview with Michael Scotto of The Athletic, Russell claimed that the team structure helped him develop as a player, comparing the process to high school:

“I have nothing but great things to say about Brooklyn. It’s almost like going to high school before you got to go to college. You felt a little bit better before you got to college. That’s how I feel about Brooklyn. I got the complete structure that I needed. I feel totally prepared going into my next chapter.”

In his brief stint with the Los Angeles Lakers, D'Angelo Russell never got the stability that he enjoyed in Brooklyn. Between a rotating coaching staff and a stupid move that destroyed his relationship with his teammates, the former second pick never reached his potential.

After some time in Brooklyn, D'Angelo Russell looks ready to become a productive scorer and step in for the injured Klay Thompson. It is clear his game matured greatly under the Nets' watch.

The Warriors will depend on this newly formed player to keep them relevant in the Western Conference. D'Angelo Russell will see just how much the Brooklyn Nets prepared him to become a more complete NBA player.

The Nets were an improved team with Russell, but going to the Warriors represents a different level of pressure and responsibility. The ball is in Russell's court.
