James Harden could very well become a free agent next season, especially since he hasn't reached a contract extension yet with the Brooklyn Nets. However, it doesn't look like he's going anywhere any time soon.

While Harden is unlikely to sign an extension with the Nets before the October 18 deadline–since he is poised to make more money if he waits for another year–the All-Star guard still doesn't see himself leaving Brooklyn. After all, he knows that he'll be able to content for the NBA title for years if he's with the team alongside Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

“Of course it’s on my mind. I’ve had multiple talks with [GM] Sean [Marks] and Joe [Tsai]. I don’t see myself anywhere else, honestly,” Harden told YES Network on his extension with Nets, via The New York Post. “But I’m taking my time with it. There’s no rush. I want to bring a championship to the city. I’m here.”

James Harden's contract runs through the 2022-23 season, but he has a player option that allows him to enter free agency after the upcoming campaign. Should he choose to wait after the 2021-22 season to discuss and sign his extension, though, he is eligible to sign a staggering $270 million contract.

With that said, it's no wonder why Harden is in no rush to get a new deal. He can simply focus on trying to help the Nets win a championship, and if he does, the money should come easily.
