Brooklyn Nets superstar James Harden did not hold back with his criticism of the Boston Celtics fan that decided to throw a water bottle at Kyrie Irving in Game 4 on Sunday. Harden was clearly unhappy with the treatment his teammate has been getting in Boston and Harden just had to make his feelings known about it.
In his mind, The Nets All-Star guard believes that a lifetime ban for these types of fans just isn't enough of a punishment:
“Somebody has to be made an example of,” he said, via Rob Goldberg of Bleacher Report. “I don't think just banning fans from the arena is good enough.”
According to reports, the Celtics fan that threw a bottle at Irving is now set to face felony charges. The fan was seen being arrested in the aftermath of the incident and as it turns out, he will now be facing the legal repercussions of his actions.
The Nets weren't the only victims of fan abuse this week. Russell Westbrook had popcorn thrown all over him in Philadelphia, while Trae Young was spat on by Knicks fans. The family of Ja Morant was also racially abused by Jazz supporters.
For his part, Harden is clearly having none of this. He is calling on the league to act more severely to address this type of unruly behavior from fans. Being banned from the arena is one thing, but as he implied in his statement above, the Nets star believes that it is only right that these felons get arrested for their crimes.
