D'Angelo Russell is having some sort of a breakout season for the Brooklyn Nets, as he is finally showing why he was a highly touted prospect when he was selected second overall back in 2015.

Russell is on pace to average career-high figures in points and assists. Not only that, the 22-year-old is setting records for the Nets. And on Monday night, the former Ohio State standout set a new franchise record for three-pointers in a month for Brooklyn.

According to a post on the team's official website, Russell's 48 three-pointers in a month is the highest in franchise history. He also led the entire Eastern Conference in three-pointers made in the month of January. It is also worth noting that Russell did it efficiently, shooting 42.7 percent from beyond the arc.

The former Los Angeles Lakers draftee converted four of his eight three-point attempts against the Boston Celtics on Monday night at TD Garden. However, the Nets failed to pull off an upset, absorbing a 112-104 loss to a Kyrie Irving-less Celtics squad.

But while they lost against the Eastern Conference powerhouse, Russell is leading the Nets to a respectable performance for the whole month. The Nets have won 10 of their 13 games in January.

Before losing to the Celtics, the Nets went on a six-game winning run that placed them in a good position to make the playoffs this season, barring any major collapse in the second half of the season. They still have a chance to improve their record this month, as they are set to take on a lowly Chicago Bulls squad on Tuesday.

Russell took his game to another level this month, as he averaged 23.1 points on top of 7.4 assists and 3.9 rebounds in 13 games. He also shot 49.1 percent from the field, including 3.7 three-pointers made a game. Earlier this month, he knocked down eight three-pointers in their 117-115 win against the Orlando Magic.
