As NBA free agency approaches, one of the biggest questions will be where star point guard Kyrie Irving ends up. The speculation surrounding the Boston Celtics guard is that he’ll end up leaving for another team, and as the days go by, more potential teams are theorized. One of those, the Brooklyn Nets, have apparently already begun to think about a potential backcourt starring Irving and D’Angelo Russell.

According to a tweet from the New York Post’s Brian Lewis, there are some within the Nets organization that think that a Russell-Irving pairing could work. A potential backcourt featuring both All-Star guards is an enticing thought, and one that apparently some within the Nets think could “thrive” with the proper balance.

Of course, both Russell and Irving are free agents this summer, and both will be looking to get paid handsomely. While Russell is a restricted free agent and thus can stay with the Nets if they match any offers given to him, it’s likely that at least one other team will try to lure him away from Brooklyn with a big contract.

If the Nets do want Irving and Russell together, it will be interesting to see what they do, as they also extended guard Spencer Dinwiddie earlier this season. Would the team keep all three guards together, or look to move on from Dinwiddie in an effort to find more money to pay Russell and Irving? It’s one of the more interesting questions of this summer, and with free agency just a month and a few days away, we’ll have all the answers soon.
