Kyrie Irving may no longer be the starting point guard for the Boston Celtics, but the Nets star has issued the team's new stud lead guard, Kemba Walker, a one-on-one challenge

Irving and Walker have put on some great shows over the years. Notably, both players are from the New York/New Jersey area — a region of the United States that many regard as the Mecca of basketball. Furthermore, both came out of the 2011 NBA Draft. Irving, now 28 years of age, went No. 1 overall to the Cavs, while the Hornets took Walker (30) with the ninth overall pick. Both are excellent scorers and facilitators, and their games are often compared.

As part of a recent Instagram Live session Irving noted that he wants to face off against his “big bro” from the metropolitan area:

“That’s my matchup, I want K-Walk. That’s my big bro. I want K-Walk. That’s my big bro. You know we got mutual respect, but I know everybody wants to see it out of New York, New Jersey,” Irving said, via Nets Wire. “Everytime we play against each other, it’s always a game. He gave us 40, I gave him 40, back-and-forth. That’s just part of where we grew up.”

Whether or not Walker will accept Irving's challenge remains to be seen. Either way, the game will likely have to wait due to the coronavirus pandemic, plus Irving is still recovering from shoulder surgery.
