Trading down in the NFL Draft has become an annual occurrence for the Seattle Seahawks.

Since 2012, Seahawks general manager John Schneider has traded his first-round pick every year, including a pair of trades in both 2017 and 2019.

Well, here we are in 2020, and Seattle is expected to trade down again, according to Peter King of NBC Sports.

“Only two sure things in this draft: Joe Burrow to the Bengals and John Schneider trades down in the first round,” an AFC executive told King.

The Seahawks currently own the 27th overall pick in the first round later this month.

Seattle is coming off of a rather surprising 2019-20 campaign in which it won 11 games and captured a Wild Card berth in the NFC playoffs. It then went on to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card Round before falling to the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round the following week.

Going into 2019, many did not have the Seahawks pegged as a playoff team due to the uncertainty in their receiving corps as well as their questionable defense.

However, due to MVP-level play from Russell Wilson and a strong rookie season from wide receiver D.K. Metcalf, Seattle ended up being one of the better teams in the conference.

That being said, it still seems pretty clear that the Seahawks are a step or two behind the very best teams in football, which is why trading down to acquire as many assets as possible certainly makes sense.

Since Wilson took over at quarterback in 2012, Seattle has missed the playoffs just once while also winning a Super Bowl title during the 2013-14 campaign.
