The much-anticipated matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots was put on hold when Cam Newton was discovered to have tested positive for COVID-19. And with the league awaiting more results, the game between the Chiefs and Patriots has officially been postponed, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

It was reported on Saturday morning that Newton produced a positive COVID-19 test ahead of the Patriots' road tilt with Kansas City. As a result, the former NFL MVP has been ruled out for Week 4 and won't suit up against the Chiefs.

Besides Newton, Jordan Ta'amu — one of the backup quarterback to Patrick Mahomes — has also tested positive for COVID-19. Given that, the NFL isn't wasting any time in pushing the game back in an attempt to give them more time to get more testing done.

If everything goes according to plan, the league is leaning toward having the game played on Tuesday, per Schefter.

Of course, the NFL's plan to have the Patriots vs. Chiefs game take place on Tuesday could be subject to change. When the Tennessee Titans began having positive COVID-19 tests earlier this week, the league originally had the idea to move the game to Monday or Tuesday.

However, seeing that the Titans had more positive tests as the week progressed, the NFL was forced to postpone the game further. Now, Tennessee won't play their Week 4 contest versus the Pittsburgh Steelers until Week 7.

Currently, the league is hoping that Newton and Ta'amu's cases are isolated ones, giving them a chance to play the game this week. In the event that there are more positive tests in the coming days, then the NFL could have their hands full in trying to manufacture ways to keep the season going smoothly.
