The New England Patriots were already underdogs against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4 and now they'll have an even tougher time upsetting the reigning Super Bowl champions. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Cam Newton has tested positive for COVID-19.

Due to testing positive for COVID-19, Newton will be unable to suit up for the Patriots on Sunday versus the Chiefs. At the same time, either Jarrett Stidham or Brian Hoyer will get the start in place of Newton following the surprising news.

Newton has performed well in his first three games in New England, completing 68.1 percent of his passes for 714 yards and two touchdowns. The former NFL MVP has also rushed for 149 yards and four touchdowns through the first three weeks.

This is an incredibly fluid information, and more details are coming out in real-time regarding Cam Newton and the New England Patriots. Update:

Another update. From the official New England Patriots website; though no direct mention of Cam Newton:

“Late last night, we received notice that a Patriots player tested positive for COVID-19. The player immediately entered self-quarantine. Several additional players, coaches and staff who have been in close contact with the player received point of care tests this morning and all were negative for COVID-19.

“We are in close consultation with the NFL, as well as our team of independent doctors and specialists, and will follow their guidance regarding our scheduled trip to Kansas City and game against the Chiefs. The health and safety of our team, as well as our opponent, are of highest priority.”
