As the San Francisco 49ers meet with Jason Verrett, a pair of AFC contenders also have eyes for the talented cornerback. According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Verrett is scheduled to visit with the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs once he leaves the 49ers.

Los Angeles Chargers veteran free agent cornerback Jason Verrett, a former Texas Christian standout and first-round draft pick, is scheduled to visit the Texans after his visit with the San Francisco 49ers, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.

The Kansas City Chiefs are also in the process of lining up a visit with the former Pro Bowl selection.

Verrett, a first-round pick of the San Diego Chargers, was once one of the NFL's most promising young defensive backs. He made the Pro Bowl during his first season as a full-time starter during his second year in the league, finishing with 47 tackles, two tackles for loss, three interceptions, and five passes defensed.

The injury bug bit one season later, though, when the Texas Christian University product tore his ACL in Week 4 and was subsequently placed on injured reserve. The Chargers exercised the option on Verrett's contract for the 2017 season despite his injury, planning to start him at cornerback opposite Casey Heyward.

Disaster struck again just barely after the season kicked off, though, when Verrett felt nagging pain in his reconstructed knee and was again placed on injured reserve. His luck was even worse last season, which Verrett missed in its entirety after tearing his Achilles tendon on the first day of training camp.

The Texans and Chiefs are both in need of help in the secondary after incumbent starters Kareem Jackson and Steven Nelson, respectively, signed with other teams in free agency.
