Jamal Murray is one of the most exciting young players in the NBA and the Denver Nuggets hope he can be an important piece in their future. In his third season, he's showcasing his natural scoring ability and helping lead the Nuggets to a 17-7 record, good enough for first place in the Western Conference.

However, Murray believes he can soar to even greater heights in the future. He has little doubt in his ability and he's putting the rest of the league on notice.

“I know I can become the best basketball player in the world. I’m not going to be satisfied with playing average,” Murray said to Joon Lee of Bleacher Report. “Even if I have stretches where I haven't figured it out yet, I have no doubt in my mind that I will. The only reason I’m playing is to be the greatest.”

This is a definitely a bold statement from the 21-year-old as he isn't even the best player on his team right now. That title belongs to the Nuggets' All-Star caliber center, Nikola Jokic. However, while his statement might seem ludicrous on its face, Denver has to love the confidence and the swagger that Murray carries himself with.

Murray is averaging 17.9 points and 4.9 assists per game this season and shooting efficiency has taken a dip, with a career-low true shooting percentage of 50.9 (per Basketball Reference). Nonetheless, Murray has shown flashes of brilliance, most notably his 48-point outburst against the Boston Celtics in early November.

Murray may not be the best basketball player in the world, even if he does all he can to attain that goal. Still, there can be no doubt that the Nuggets have a player that has one of the most confident players in the world.
