The Indiana Pacers were on the receiving end of some outstanding news on Wednesday after it was officially announced that superstar guard Victor Oladipo is targeting Jan. 29 against the Chicago Bulls as his much-awaited return date.

The 27-year-old, who has been out of action for nearly a year now due to a season-ending knee injury he sustained last season, spoke about his highly anticipated comeback and gave some insight on his thought process:

“Obviously I wanted to be smart about the certain injury I have, about my career and about myself,” Oladipo said, via Scott Agness of The Athletic. “And I just felt like waiting this time; this timeline was good for me, and my body especially, just given its natural healing process of the human body. I think waiting a year was good for me, and I think the date is good. It’s something to look forward to, but again, nothing is definite. Nothing is promised. Things have been going great so far, knock on wood. So hopefully it continues to do that.”

It is worth noting that Oladipo himself also provided a bit of doubt on his potential return date, emphasizing that nothing is one hundred percent certain at this point.

The two-time All-Star then went on to share some of the most important things he learned in this experience:

“Everyone’s different is basically what I’ve learned,” Oladipo said. “Even though those guys had different return days, I didn’t really have to test myself or compare and contrast myself to their injury and their return dates because everyone’s different. So I think the way I did it was best for me.”

The Pacers are currently 23-15 and have a firm hold of the sixth spot in the East. While it is certain that the Pacers will have Victor Oladipo on some form of minutes limit upon his return, his comeback will certainly provide a huge boost for the squad and their aspirations this season.
