Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olson has had some trouble staying healthy in recent years. Fortunately, head coach Ron Rivera is confident about his status for the 2019 NFL season.

There has been plenty of speculation regarding Olson's future this offseason. According to ESPN's David Newton, Rivera expects him back for the 2019 campaign:

Panthers coach Ron Rivera feels “very comfortable’’ that Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen will play this season even though Olsen is being wooed by ESPN and Fox Sports to move into broadcasting. “Greg has told me he wants to play. So going forward I’m very happy with that. . . . Until he tells me otherwise I’m anticipating him being back.’’

This is certainly encouraging news for Carolina. Although Olson himself has contemplated his playing future, he never gave any strong indication that he was ready to call it quits. It seems Rivera is confident in the veteran's desire to play next season.

Olson will still have a tough journey ahead of him if he hopes to play an integral role in Carolina's offense moving forward. After Olson's 2017 campaign ended with a fractured foot, he refractured it in Week 1 of the 2018 NFL and was forced to end the year on injured reserve once again. As a result, there is reason to be skeptical about his health moving forward.

It should also be noted that Olson is also on the cusp of becoming an NFL broadcaster. He has made it clear that is what he intends to do in his post-playing career. It will be interesting to see if which route he decides to go in this offseason.
