Patrick Beverley will not be making the preseason trip to China for their game against the New Orleans Pelicans on October 12, Houston Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni revealed to Craig Ackerman.

It is probable that Beverley will miss at least the next three preseason games, as the Rockets are taking the precaution of reserving the health of their point guard. It is yet to be confirmed if Beverley is will miss any time when the regular season begins.

The injury that has been cited to explain his omission from the roster heading to China has been labeled as “knee soreness” according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

In Beverley’s absence, shooting guard James Harden is expected to take on additional ball-handling duties. Pablo Prigioni and Tyer Ennis are also at the Rockets' disposal as reserves.

Last year, Beverley averaged 9.9 points, 3.4 assists and 3.5 rebounds in 28.7 minutes per game. His defensive ability and tenacity make him a valuable asset for the team, so the Rockets organization will be hoping for a speedy recovery from the 28-year-old.

The Rockets’ season officially begins on October 27 against the Los Angeles Lakers at the Staples Center.
