Coming into the game, the New England Patriots were considered to be underdogs against the Buffalo Bills. While Bill Belichick's squad was certainly not favored to win this game, few expected the sheer domination Buffalo had against their bitter rivals.

The Patriots were simply no match for Josh Allen's attack, as they bowed down to the Bills 47 – 17. This 30-point loss is the most lopsided loss in Bill Belichick's storied playoff history, and will likely never be matched again. (via SportsCenter)

After years of tormenting the Bills, Patriots fans got a taste of their own medicine, as they were simply unable to stop the might of Allen. Their defense couldn't hold a candle to Buffalo's torrid offense, as Allen and co. gashed the New England offense drive after drive with touchdowns. Their offense, led by a rookie Mac Jones, didn't fare any better, scoring a mere 17 points against the top-ranked Bills defense.

Despite this terrible loss, Bill Belichick can still likely call this season a long-term. The Patriots weren't expected to be in the playoff hunt this season, with them going through a rebuild. Despite having a rookie under center, though, the team stormed their way to the playoffs with a mid-season surge.

At the very least, Patriots fans can console themselves with the fact that they may have found their quarterback of the future. Jones' first NFL playoff start didn't go as planned, but the flashes of brilliance he showed in the regular season are encouraging signs. This loss is merely a sign that this team has a ways to go before they can become legitimate contenders again.
