The New England Patriots officially ushered in a new era by signing Cam Newton as Tom Brady's successor under center heading into the 2020 NFL season. Although there is plenty of speculation regarding their expectations, it appears Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown is optimistic about the changes.

As a Maine native, Brown's ties to New England go back to his playing days at Boston University. According to Brandon Robinson of Heavy.com, Brown feels the ‘Patriot Way' along with NEwton's overall talent make for an ideal partnership:

“I think that with Cam Newton, you go into that thing and the system prevails often time,” Brown said. “The culture prevails often times and you’re just caught in the current of history and you’re caught in the current of success, and you just got amazing coaching and leadership in Coach Belichick and so you know, Cam’s success or his ability to continue to steer that franchise I think is a good partnership. The risk/ reward you know, for the Patriots with him I think is a very good partnership from afar.”

One of the biggest storylines heading into the 2020 campaign is whether New England's sustained success was primarily thanks to the efforts of Brady or system that has been established by head coach Bill Belichick. Initial reports indicated that the team was content moving forward with Jarret Stidham and Brian Hoyer under center. However, their decision to give Newton a trial run indicates that an element of elite talent is still required to make it work.

The former MVP has not been shy about having a chip on his shoulder following a prolonged stay on the market as a free agent. While Brown may be in the midst of formulating his own success with the 76ers for the 2019-20 NBA season restart at Walt Disney World, it is safe to say that he is keeping n eye on how the situation unfolds for the Patriots.
