New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels had his second opportunity to be a head coach in the NFL lined up this past offseason with the Indianapolis Colts before choosing to stay with the Patriots.

It appears McDaniels still has the itch to once again be a head coach in the NFL, which is an opportunity he hopes to reach at some point down the line, according to Nora Princiotti of The Boston Globe.

McDaniels may have the desire to become a head coach in the NFL again, but those aspirations will bring much skepticism around the league due to how he handled the entire situation with Indianapolis. He had agreed to become the head coach of the Colts before backing out at the last minute to stay on the staff under Bill Belichick in New England. This rubbed many the wrong way given he even had his introductory press conference lined up.

Instead, Indianapolis was sent back to the drawing board, which resulted in them bringing in former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich for the open position. Meanwhile, this stained McDaniels' reputation a bit as there will be doubt about whether he has a true commitment to any head coaching gig away from New England.

There will be vacancies to choose from, with the likes of the Green Bay Packers at the top of the list as one of the most appealing jobs on the market. Nonetheless, at some point, Josh McDaniels will get another shot to prove he can be a successful head coach who can lead a franchise to relevancy.

In the meantime, the focus is directly on helping the Patriots make another strong push in the playoffs toward the Super Bowl.
