New England Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore is feeling very trusting of his fellow secondary players.

Coming off a Super Bowl–winning run in 2018-19, Gilmore, 28, will enter his third season at CB with the Patriots, who have a solid secondary including Jason McCourty, two-time champion Jonathan Jones, and recent Pats draft picks in defensive backs Duke Dawson and Joejuan Williams.

Here's what Gilmore had to say about his teammates and New England's defense (from SiriusXM NFL Radio via ESPN.com):

“I've never had as much trust in a secondary, or the defense, as I have in these guys. It allows us to play fast.”

“Everybody brings different things to the table. You have to have that, with the different receivers in the league, and everybody matches up differently,” he said.

The 6-foot-1 Gilmore has his soothing comments about the defense right on the heels of 42-year-old quarterback Tom Brady praising the unit. Brady told the radio program:

“We've got a very good defense this year. It's hard to complete passes on our secondary. That's just the reality, so it's actually great work for our offense to see how we measure up against a very good defense.”

The Patriots are strong contenders to retain their Super Bowl crown, looking to score the fourth title in six years and the seventh championship in franchise history.

Gilmore enters his seventh season in the NFL after spending five years with the Buffalo Bills. Gilmore, selected with the 10th overall pick in the 2012 draft, is a two-time Pro Bowl CB who appeared in every game for the Pats last season and recorded two forced fumbles, two interceptions, and 45 combined tackles.
