The New England Patriots are reportedly very high on Lamar Jackson. Sources around the league have pegged the Pats as the team with the most interest in the quarterback prospect, which could be a sign that New England is strongly considering drafting him to be the long-term successor to Tom Brady. And apparently, Brady himself is a fan of the former Heisman Trophy winner.

In an Instagram post by the NFL Network account featuring a quote from analyst Bucky Brooks about the Patriots’ potential interest in Jackson, Brady replied to Deion Sanders’ comment in praise of Jackson by saying the Louisville QB is “a beast!!!!!”

It’s certainly interesting to see Brady going out of his way to comment on a post about his potential successor. History suggests that aging superstar quarterbacks aren’t exactly great at handling situations where their eventual replacements already on the team while they’re still playing.

Brady has recently been in the center of some speculation regarding that very topic. It had been rumored that he had a hand in getting Jimmy Garoppolo traded, or at the very least was glad his backup was shipped out. Obviously, he has denied those allegations.

It’s anyone’s guess whether Brady was sincere in his belief that Jackson is indeed a beast. And even if he is actually a fan, whether he’d be cool mentoring said beast. Either way, the Patriots still need to find a way to actually land Jackson, whose stock has risen steadily during the whole draft process, before thinking about Brady’s reaction.
