The New England Patriots have had an up-and-down season in 2018 thus far, but are hoping to get things back together to make a playoff run. Unfortunately, the Patriots lost wide receiver Josh Gordon due to more failed drug tests. New England appears to have a need at wide receiver after that loss, but a new report shows that they wanted to add another star receiver ahead of the NFL trade deadline.

According to a report from Jay Glazer via Arrick Upton of The 1265 Report, the Patriots tried to acquire Green Bay Packers' star wide receiver Randall Cobb ahead of the deadline.

Cobb would have been an excellent pickup for Brady and the Patriots. He would have fit perfectly with Brady, as he is a quick receiver that excels on short routes and making plays in the open field.

The bad part of Cobb this season has been his health. Cobb has missed quite a few games with the Packers and his injuries may have kept him from making the impact that the Patriots were hoping he could make.

Green Bay made some big moves ahead of the trade deadline. They traded star safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and running back Ty Montgomery. Keeping Cobb could very well be a sign that they want to re-sign him this offseason and keep him alongside Aaron Rodgers.

Either way, the report is intriguing for the Patriots. If they had gotten Cobb, it would be have been interesting to see how much better Brady and the offense would have been this year.
