The Oklahoma City Thunder wasted no time showing why they are the favorites to win their first-round matchup with the Utah Jazz. The Thunder got the early upper hand in the series with a 116-108 win in Game 1 on Sunday, thanks in large part to a monster effort by Paul George, who finished the game with 36 points on 13-for-20 shooting from the field.

That said, George seemed to have picked up an injury with a report saying that he sustained a hip contusion and that he is scheduled to be evaluated this Monday. When asked about the injury, however, George did not sound as though it was serious enough for Thunder fans to lose some sleep over.

“It’s good. Just a re-aggravation [of the injury] from the Atlanta game. Kind of crept back on me. It happened going to the paint, going to the lane trying to finish over Gobert with the left. From then on, it just got a little sore.”

Paul George was feeling it from downtown against Utah. The Jazz are among the best defensive teams in the perimeter but George made a mockery of Utah’s defense with his eight 3-pointers. Dating back to the regular season, George now has 27 triples over his past five games. He also buried eight treys in the Thunder’s regular-season finale win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Apr. 11.

Should the Thunder lose George for at least a game, Oklahoma City will have to rely more on Carmelo Anthony and Russell Westbrook. They will also have to coax more production from the likes of Corey Brewer and Terrance Ferguson.
