Zion Williamson was supposed to be the toast of the town for the New Orleans Pelicans as they started their rebuild anew. However, Brandon Ingram has turned himself into a surprising star plenty of basketball fans in The Big Easy are more than happy to cheer for.

Ingram proved himself to be such an invaluable asset during the Pelicans' 138-132 overtime triumph over the Utah Jazz that the Smoothie King Center crowd started “MVP” chants for the former second overall pick.

It was an amazing moment and night overall for Ingram, and he appreciated all the love from the adoring fans and had some fun reacting to the adoring chants:

Ingram put up career numbers against the Jazz, making the chants for him completely justified. He finished the night with 49 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and a block on 15-of-25 shooting. He singlehandedly forced the Pelicans into overtime and stole the game from underneath the noses of Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert.

Moreover, Ingram's numbers have finally hit an All-Star level that wasn't seen before during his time in Los Angeles. He's averaging 25.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists on 48.0% shooting and 40.6% shooting from deep. The Pelicans star has become one of the most exciting payers to watch in the NBA and fully deserves a vote into this year's All-Star Game.

If Brandon Ingram playing like an absolute beast is a thought that scares NBA defenses, just wait until Zion Williamson joins the Pelicans next week.
