The New Orleans Pelicans are doing just fine even without big man DeMarcus Cousins, as the team just finished a four-game sweep of the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round of this year’s playoffs. Cousins definitely prefers that he’s out there on the court and helping his team win, but he’s still far from being 100 percent ready to play as he tries to work his way back from an Achilles injury.

Speaking to Jennifer Hale of Fox Sports, Cousins expresses his optimism on his recovery process, saying that he likes the fact that he’s been consistently making headway in his rehab.

“Rehab is going great for me. I’m improving each and every day. I’m improving at a pretty rapid pace as well. That keeps my energy high. It keeps my positive vibes, knowing that I’m improving at a rapid pace. You know, it’s a process, but I’m looking forward to improving every day.”

DeMarcus Cousins saw his season prematurely end when he injured his left Achilles during a 115-113 win at home over the Houston Rockets on Jan. 26. Before he was declared out for the rest of the 2017-18 campaign, Boogie was averaging 25.2 points and 12.9 rebounds per game. While Cousins’ injury dampened the Pelicans’ chances of getting into the playoffs, let alone winning an NBA title this year, it barely discouraged New Orleans, which is now gearing up for the second round of the postseason.

With Anthony Davis, Jrue Holiday, Rajon Rondo, and Nikola Mirotic all playing well, the Pelicans are able to weather the absence of Cousins, and they will need to sustain their great play in the next round against the winner of the Golden State-San Antonio series.
