DeMarcus Cousins has offered to pay the funeral expenses for Stephon Clark, an unarmed African American that was shot by police on Sunday.

According to CNN, Clark was shot by police who were responding to a report that a man had broken windows and was hiding in a backyard.

When officers entered the backyard police say he advanced towards the officers with something in his hand. “Show me your hands!” one of the officers yelled, “Gun, gun, gun.”

Moments later Clark was shot and pronounced dead. Since the shooting, there have been protests all over Sacramento including one outside the Golden 1 Center, the Kings new home on Thursday night that prevented more fans from getting in the stadium.  The game was delayed 20 minutes and only about 2,000 fans were able to watch the game.

For Cousins, it's really not surprising to see him reach out in the community of his former team. When he was with the Kings he did a lot of community outreach and was loved throughout Sacramento and California.

In 2015 he paid for Grant High School football player Jaulon Clavo‘s funeral costs after he was shot before a playoff game. Cousins has had a soft spot in his heart for kids, especially ones from the inner city and would often visit some of Sacramento's worst high schools.

Cousins at times has also tried to bridge the gap between the black community and police officers not only in Sacramento but also in his hometown of Mobile, Ala.

When Cousins was traded from the Kings to the New Orleans Pelicans he said he would always consider Sacramento home and would still be active in the community, and so far that does seem to be the case
