Magic Johnson is among the millions of fans awaiting Zion Williamson's debut with the New Orleans Pelicans. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft has been sidelined since the end of the preseason due to a torn meniscus, an injury the franchise has kept under wraps after declaring they did not know when he first suffered the injury.

Executive Vice-President of Basketball Operations David Griffin gave a timetable of six-to-eight weeks, but upon hitting the latter said his recovery could take more time.

Johnson urged that only Williamson and the Pelicans know what's best for him.

“We don’t know the extent of his injury. They will know what’s good for him and make a good decision,” Johnson told TMZ Sports on Tuesday night. “We want to see him on the court, but if it’s better for him to sit out then maybe you do that. If he wants to come back, then come back.

“The league misses him, you know? We love seeing his talent because we think that he’s really going to be a star in our league.”

Williamson led a young and inexperienced Pelicans roster to a 5-0 record in the preseason, leading them in scoring in three of his four appearances.

The rookie is largely seen as a generational talent and one that can propel his team in the long run, but with the season likely at waste with an 8-23 record this season, it's likely New Orleans will take it slow and manage his injury with utmost caution.
