The New Orleans Pelicans wrapped an impressive four-game sweep of the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday behind another collective offensive effort. Much of this came in the way of their starting unit taking charge in the first-round series.

Veteran point guard Rajon Rondo was at the forefront of that, putting together a highly-productive four-game set against the Trail Blazers. In fact, his high level of production that saw him put up the fourth-most amount of assists in a four-game series.

Through the four games played, Rondo was a strong source of reliability in the backcourt channeling into his “Playoff Rondo” form averaging a double-double with 11.3 points and 13.3 assists per contest while recording three games with at least 10 assists. The 32-year-old's play helped set the table for both Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday to put together strong series averaging 33.0 and 27.8 points respectably over that stretch.

If Rondo can continue to perform at this level, it could help make the Pelicans a serious threat in contending for the NBA title. New Orleans has put together a formidable and balanced roster that has several offensive weapons around him that could help better utilize his unique passing ability.

Aside from all the issues that Rondo has faced throughout his career, this is where he has proven to be most viable in the playoffs where he has put together some huge performances. His steady production and presence on the floor could provide New Orleans the floor general that the franchise needs to take the next step and build off this promising start to the postseason.

In meantime, this shows that Rondo can still be an elite point guard that can have a tremendous impact on the game when given the opportunity to play a significant role. If anything, this also solidifies his status a potential long-term piece of the puzzle.
