With only a few weeks to go before this year’s draft, the Detroit Pistons are actively working to to see which player they'd want to select, and even what they'd want to do with the 12th overall pick.

After only missing the playoffs by five games, their front office knows that they only need a few key pieces to get them over the hump and be a team that can consistently make postseason appearances. That said, Marc Stein of ESPN reports that Stan Van Gundy and the Pistons front office may opt to trade the pick for a proven veteran who they think can fit well in their system and contribute towards the playoff goal.

Looking at their current group of players, the obvious need is more depth at the forward position. However, with Reggie Jackson increasingly looking like the wrong man for the starting point guard job last season, they might also need a point guard who can serve as insurance for them should they eventually part ways with their current starter.

Although no team has emerged yet as a potential trade partner for them, it’s expected that interest from other teams will increase as the draft draws nearer, especially with the talented pool of players that declared this year.
