Derrick Rose is following in the footsteps of Detroit Pistons legend Isiah Thomas.

Both Rose and Thomas are Chicago natives. Thomas is the best player in Pistons franchise history, while Rose is entering his first season in Detroit.

Growing up in Chicago, you're pretty much trained to hate the Pistons. However, Rose says it's not weird being a Chicago guy playing for Detroit.

Detroit fans already love Rose. They have been giving him “MVP chants” at home games.

Rose is off to a sizzling start to the season. Through the first two games, the former MVP is averaging 22.5 points and 6.0 assists while shooting 63.0 percent from the field. Detroit defeated the Indiana Pacers on opening night, but fell to the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday.

Last season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Rose averaged 18.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. The three-time All-Star shot 48.2 percent from the floor, 37.0 percent from beyond the arc, 85.6 percent from the free-throw line and scored a career-high 50 points on Halloween against the Utah Jazz.

Once star power forward Blake Griffin returns to the Pistons' lineup, Detroit will be more explosive on offense. The Pistons averaged 107.0 points per game in 2018-19, which ranked 25th in the league. With Rose in fold, Detroit has a proven closer who can take some pressure off of Griffin in the fourth quarter.
