Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden is already under fire for an email he sent in 2011 in which he made a racist comment about NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith. Now more details are coming out about other emails Gruden has sent in the past, including one in which he used vulgar language to describe NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Gruden also had some nasty things to say about a few team owners because of their role in the 2011 lockout.

The Raiders coach admitted to the Goodell email in a conversation with ESPN's Chris Mortensen:

“I was in a bad frame of mind at the time (in 2011) and I called Roger Goodell a (expletive) in one of these emails, too,” the Raiders coach said Friday night to ESPN. “They were keeping players and coaches from doing what they love with a lockout. There also were a lot of things being reported publicly about the safety of the sport that I love. I was on a mission with high school football (in the Tampa area) during that time and there were a lot of parents who were scared about letting their kids play football. It just didn't sit well with me.”

The NFL has turned over a number of old Gruden emails to the Raiders and is reportedly exploring the possibility of disciplinary action. Gruden wasn't employed by the league or any teams when he sent these emails (he thinks 5-7 were flagged by the NFL), as he was an announcer for Monday Night Football at the time.

Gruden has been doing damage control since the news broke about the Smith email. Schefter reports “wide-ranging” reaction in Vegas' locker room:

Reactions to Gruden's emailed comments have been wide-ranging both within the Raiders locker room and around the league, according to sources. Some people believe there should be repercussions for Gruden, while others believe he should be forgiven, including one Black player who gave him a hug and asked how he could help, according to sources.

Fritz Pollard Alliance executive director Rod Graves released a statement on the matter Sunday, and he thinks Gruden must face accountability for his words. The Raiders coach has already spoken with owner Mark Davis and will again.
